SCHOOLS

SAXE GOTHA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL students, staff and parents donated goods for children in Afghanistan. The son of SGES Math Coach Sandy Bressette is an Army Special Forces soldier stationed in Afghanistan. The clothing and food items were collected to help with Bressette’s mission.

WHITE KNOLL MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER LAURIE JORDAN & ROCKY CREEK ELEMENTARY TEACHER HEATHER COKER have been selected to participate in the 2012 Science PLUS Institute.

PLEASANT HILL MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER DOT HARDIN has received the Outstanding Contributions to Mathematics Education Award from the South Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

LEXINGTON MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT REGAN HENDRIX has won first place in the S.C. State Fair Greatest Grandparents Essay contest.

YOUTH

LEXINGTON 1 has selected Hugh O’Brian Youth ambassadors. Lexington 1 student ambassadors include Phoebe Ngo, Gilbert High School; Qiang Zhang, Lexington High School; Savannah Williams, Pelion High School; and Abigail Owen, White Knoll High School.

MILITARY

NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT MATTHEW P. GILBERT has graduated from U.S. navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 2008 graduate of Camden Military Academy.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN KEN E. SMOAK has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Bas, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Dale Smoke of Pelion.

ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PFC. DAMAREA D. ATTERBURY has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Clarence Atterbury and the grandson of Alice Atterbury, both of Columbia.
