Neighbor’s tip leads Richland County deputies to burglar

— A Richland County weekend burglar was quick, but a citizen was quicker.

Now the suspect sits in jail, and property stolen from a Birchfield Road residence has been recovered, Sheriff Leon Lott said Monday.

It happened this way:

When a burglar exited the residence through a rear window around 5 a.m. Sunday, a neighbor who was awake spotted him and called 911.

Although the suspect drove off in a black pick up truck loaded with stolen items, sheriff’s deputies stopped a man fitting the burglar’s description on nearby Hard Scrabble Road.

The citizen had told 911 the pickup was headed toward Hard Scrabble.

A black stove and a microwave were stolen from the home.

Mack Wilson, 45, is in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center charged with burglary.

In a news release, Lott praised the vigilance of citizens in fighting crime.
