RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — Two men who tried to run from deputies responding to a burglary alarm early Tuesday morning near Blythewood have been arrested.
Dajon Whitaker, 18, and Lyndon Douglas, 24, were arrested after Richland County sheriff’s deputies responded to a burglary alarm at Fairfield Electric on Blythewood Road, department spokesman Curtis Wilson said. Both men are charged with burglary
When officers arrived on scene, they saw a 2001 Pontiac sedan fleeing from the scene. A traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle disregarded lights and sirens from the deputies’ patrol cars. The car continued to drive until losing control and crashing at Blythewood and Wilson roads. Then, one of the men, later identified as Whitaker, turned himself in, Wilson said, but the other ran.
Deputies set up a perimeter and searched the area. Douglas was arrested on Elton Walker Road after someone called in a tip about a suspicious person in the area.
Deputies recovered 2 copper rolls stolen from Fairfield Electric, Wilson said. The rolls were worth a combined $8,000.
