Columbia, SC — Scott Compton, the Chapin High School teacher placed on administrative leave for stomping on the U.S. flag as part of a class lesson, shows more respect for the flag, what it stands for and those who have fought and died beneath it than those confused “patriots” calling for his ouster.
What Mr. Compton so clearly understands — and the uptight, faux patriots clearly don’t — is that what those men and women fought and died for, and what we as a nation stand for, is much more than a flag. If your concept of honor and country is limited to a flag, maybe you should attend Mr. Compton’s class.
These folks probably had good intentions and meant well. However, as the saying goes, “God save us from people who mean well.”
