Friday: Let those left out Nov. 6 vote

Published: January 18, 2013

— Only in a political system (well, perhaps in a private business that hires relatives) could a person be retained, even rewarded, for incompetence and perhaps malfeasance.

Lillian McBride is set to get a position manufactured just for her. I see no reason why others should not have been permitted to apply, and be screened by an objective panel. Lillian McBride should get the salary she had when she was just over voter registration.

I’ve had two occasions over the years to deal with voter registration. I don’t know who was in charge at those times, but both times I was treated with courtesy, geniality and efficiency. So this letter is in no way criticism of the frontline staff.

Those people who were disenfranchised in the November election should be allowed to vote, in person at the county building or by absentee ballot, especially on the one-cent sales-tax increase and other close contests.
