Ravenel nixes political comeback

January 18, 2013

Thomas Ravenel -- the Charleston Republican who resigned as state treasurer after pleading guilty to a 2007 drug charge -- is taking a pass on a political comeback.

He announced on his Facebook page Friday that he will not run for the congressional that opened with Tim Scott appointment to the U.S senate.

“The timing and also the already strong lineup of candidates seeking the SC 1st Congressional seat does not present me with a viable opportunity to re-engage in public life," he wrote.

Ravenel added without revealing a name: "I know there's someone else better prepared to fight for our natural rights in Washington.”
