One wounded in attempted Richland home invasion

Published: January 20, 2013

One person was wounded by gunfire and two gun-toting assailants are at large after a foiled weekend home invasion at a Percival Road residence.

The wounded person is in Palmetto Richland hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Richland Council Sheriff’s Department spokesman Curtis Wilson said.

Wilson said shortly before midnight Saturday, two people were sitting outside a residence in the 8400 block of Percival Road when a car drove up and two men hopped out, both carrying handguns.

At that point, the two people who’d been sitting outside ran inside their residence followed by the assailants, one of whom was wearing a ski mask. When the two people inside closed the door, the suspects tried to force it open and began shooting, striking one person inside “multiple times in the upper body,” Wilson said.

Deputies continue to investigate, he said.
