SCHOOLS

LEXINGTON 1 has named Janet H. Malone principal of the district’s newest elementary school slated to open for the 2014-2015 school year.

DENT MIDDLE SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER DONNA TUCKER has been recognized by Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott for her quick actions, which helped save a student’s life.

SUMMIT PARKWAY MIDDLE SCHOOL swept the district’s third annual Quiz Whiz tournament by winning all of its matches.

LONGLEAF MIDDLE SCHOOL students in the Girls Empowered Program won the gold medal for School Innovation in the Middle School division competition, which is sponsored by the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee.

COMMUNITY

FIVE LEXINGTON COUNTY OFFICERS have been promoted by Sheriff James R. Metts including William Freund, sergeant; Michael Scott Ellis, sergeant; Douglas Edmonson II, investigator with the Lexington County Mulit-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team; James Kemfort, investigator in the Major Crimes Unit; and Miles Rawl, property crimes investigator in the North Region Patrol District.

THE VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS has selected Pleasant Hill Middle School Teacher Steven Woodyard as the 2012 VFW South Carolina Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year.

THE BROOKLAND-CAYCE EDUCATION FOUNDATION will inducted teaching professionals Julia Davis and Martha Park into the Educator Hall of Fame Feb. 7, 2013.

YOUTH

LEXINGTON HIGH STUDENTS KELSEY FOSTER AND BRADY PLATT have been chosen to represent the Special Olympics South Carolina on the National Youth Activation Committee.

SOLIA NIUTUPUIVAHA, a White Knoll High School student, has been selected by the South Carolina Coaches Association for Women’s Sports to play in the All-Star Volleyball Tournament.

MILITARY

AIR FORCE AIRMAN PHILLIPP B. ANDES has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Andrewa Palmer of Lexington and the grandson of Helen Jacobs of Irmo.

AIR FORCE RESERVE AIRMAN CRYSTAL A. ANDERSON has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Twinda Anderson of Columbia.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN AUBREY R. DALEY has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Tim Daley of Lexington.

AIR NATIONAL GUARD AIRMAN 1ST CLASS PRESTON A. CORPIS has graduated from basic military traning at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son on Cinthia Corpis of Eastover.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN 1ST CLASS IRVIN BRYANT JR. has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Linda Bryant of Columbia.
