Tuesday: Government too invasive

Published: January 22, 2013

America’s Founding Fathers were prophetic. Irrespective of their religious labels, they understood that the representative republic they so magnificently outlined in Constitution would only function if ordinary citizenry and elected officials alike chose to self-govern by those moral standards in the Ten Commandments of the Bible.

They knew European history enough to discern that if individuals did not exercise self-restraint, American government would, of necessity, become evermore invasive in order to compel its citizens to do that which they chose not to do. Government would become ever larger, dysfunctional, self-serving, intrusive and totalitarian.

America is becoming what our forefathers feared and revolted to protect us against.
