Lexington hosts White Knoll on Tuesday in the final round of the first half of the Region 5-4A boys basketball campaign.

The host Wildcats enter the game in a three-way tie for first place with Aiken and South Aiken at 3-1, while the Timberwolves are just off the pace with a 2-2 conference record. In the girls opener, Lexington (1-3) and White Knoll (0-4) are looking for wins to rekindle their flickering playoff hopes.

Lexington’s boys rebounded from a 58-42 loss to Aiken to close out last week with a rousing 73-44 win over Dutch Fork. Nelson Spence (17 points), Nygel Gates (16) and Maverick Bishop (14) led the double-digit scoring parade.

Meanwhile, the Dutch Fork girls (18-0, 4-0) continue to mow down opponents. The defending state champion Silver Foxes, who host North Augusta tonight, added White Knoll (78-23) and Lexington (76-41) last week.

Alaina Coates hit Lexington for 31 points, nine rebounds, five steals and three assists, after going for 20 points and 11 boards against White Knoll. The 6-foot-5 all-state center is averaging 18.9 points and 9.9 rebounds a game.
