Showdown: Dreher girls at Lower Richland

Published: January 22, 2013

Unbeaten, second-ranked Lower Richland hosts fourth-ranked Dreher on Tuesday in the Region 4-3A girls basketball game of the week.

The Diamond Hornets (16-0, 5-0) stunned the defending state champion Blue Devils 44-40 in the region opener at Dreher on Jan. 4. LR can virtually lock up the conference championship by completing the sweep tonight. The Devils, on the other hand, can pull even in the race with four games to go – setting up the likelihood of a shared title.

Lower Richland gets a production from a number of players with junior Breshay Johnson (11.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg) at the top of the list. Johnson gets plenty of help from the likes of junior Christian brown (7.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.6 spg), senior Dayonshe’ Mitchell (7.0 ppg, 2.3 spg), senior Jasmine Richardson (6.2 ppg, 2.6 apg, 3.5 spg), freshman Alaysia Washington (5.6 ppg, 4.3 rpg) and eighth-grader Kameron Roach (5.4 ppg).

Dreher (15-5, 4-1) has had plenty of time to stew about the loss at home in the first encounter, and finally gets its chance to rectify the situation.

Junior Kaydra Duckett (15.8 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 2.4 apg, 3.3 spg) leads the way with solid support coming from freshman Jhileiya Dunlap (11.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 2.2 spg), sophomore Jordan Starr (8.3 ppg), senior Jazmine Robinson (6.6 ppg, 3.2 apg, 3.5 spg), junior Makayla Johnson (5.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg) and junior Shaniqwa Hopkins (5.1 ppg).
