Honoring outstanding educators

Published: January 29, 2013

The Brookland-Cayce Education Foundation will induct two people into its Educator Hall of Fame next month.

Julia Jackson Davis and Martha Park will be honored during the 12th annual gala at Seawell’s Restaurant in Columbia.

Davis grew up in Orangeburg and taught at Brookland-Cayce High School from 1984-2009. She was named Midlands Technical College’s Mathematics Adjunct Teacher of the Year in 2010.

Park was born in Dublin, Ga. She began her teaching career in 1962 at Eau Claire High School and in 1964 moved to Brookland-Cayce High School, where she taught 10th grade English, vocabulary, mythology, speech, and SAT preparation.

“We are proud to recognize the outstanding careers of our teachers. The lives they have touched and molded are seen all over our community and the country,” said John Banks, foundation board member. “This gala is an incredible night to celebrate the rich history of this school and community.”

Tickets are $35 per person or $60 per couple. Call Nanette Wooton at (803) 739-8076.
