SUMMERVILLE, SC — A man who robbed a bank in West Columbia two weeks ago wore the same outfit to rob another bank in Summerville Tuesday.
The man, who hasn’t yet been identified by police in Summerville or West Columbia, walked into the First Citizens Bank branch on North Main Street in Summerville Tuesday afternoon, handed a note demanding money to the teller, and made off with an undetermined amount of stolen cash, according to a Summerville Police Department news release. There was only one patron in the bank at the time of the robbery, and no one was injured.
The man was also responsible for a similar robbery at a BB&T branch on Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia on Jan. 15, a Summerville Police Department spokesman said. In that incident, the suspect robbed the nearly-empty bank using only a note.
The similarities go deeper, The robber was captured on surveillance video at both banks in what appears to be the same hat, shirt and sunglasses.
The two departments are now working together to track down the suspect.
