It’s time to give high school softball attention

S.C.’s top softball players

MONDAY marked the first day of tryouts/workouts for baseball and softball around the state. Since we are still a week away from signing day and two weeks from basketball playoffs, I’d like to share the top softball players in the state.

The sport of fastpitch softball seldom gets the coverage it deserves, and I wanted to bring it to the forefront by making it the first of the spring sports to get my attention. Here are SCVarsity.com's Top 15 softball players for the 2013 season. This is an all-class inclusive ranking.

Eight quarter proposal. I want to rewind to the column I wrote on Monday in reference to the Class 3A SCISA coaches wanting to get an “eight quarter” proposal passed so that their 10th-graders would be allowed to play junior varsity football and dress for varsity in reserve on Friday nights.

Not all of the SCISA athletic directors and head masters are on board. Some do not support the proposal and others say they are in the information-gathering phase.

The State is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
