— A 65-year-old Irmo man was thrown part way out of his truck and killed in a single-vehicle wreck Wednesday night.

The man, identified as Ronald P. Woodard by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts, was the only occupant of the Ford pickup when it crashed around 10 p.m., SC Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly said.

The driver was travelling westbound on Koon Road near Coogler Road when his truck went off the right side of the road, struck a ditch then a utility pole and overturned, Kelly said. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown part way out of the truck

The wreck is under investigation by the highway patrol.
