While things have been settled at the top of the Region 4-3A basketball standings, the scramble for the remaining available state playoff berths should make for interesting view over the final two games of the regular season.
Region 4-3A boys
Lower Richland (8-0) has already clinched the No. 1 seed and will be out to officially bag the outright region championship with a win Friday over second-place A.C. Flora (6-2). Dreher (4-4) enters the stretch run in third place, but not yet necessarily assure of playoff entry. One more win will do it for the Blue Devils.
That leaves Camden (2-6), Chapin (2-6) and Westwood (2-6). One of the three makes the cut. Westwood is the long shot. After a big game Friday against Camden, the first-year Redhawks finish the campaign on Tuesday at Lower Richland. Chapin hosts Dreher on Friday and finishes up at Camden on Tuesday in what could be the decisive game.
Region 4-3A girls
Lower Richland (8-0) and Dreher (6-2) have already secured the top playoff seeds. Otherwise, Chapin (3-5) and A.C. Flora (3-5) are tied for fourth place with Camden (2-6) and Westwood (2-6) one game off the pace.
Chapin and Flora both have tough games left Chapin vs. Dreher; Flora vs. LR leaving the door open to Camden and/or Westwood. Of the two, Camden has the beat shot at making up ground directly with games against Westwood and Chapin.
