COLUMBIA, SC — A 24-year-old man has been accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in his car Monday morning, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Kevin Felix Alvarez is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Police say that the girl and Alvarez are acquaintances, and she had asked the man for a ride to a location.
But police said Alvarez didnt take the girl to that location, and officers found the mans car parked in a vacant lot on Columbia Avenue Monday morning. Alvarez and the girl, both partially clothed, were found inside the car.
The girl and Alvarez had slept overnight in the car, according to police.
Alvarez is being held at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. The girl was taken to a local hospital before being released to her mother.
