Columbia, SC — I am appalled that no one involved in the debate over the teacher who stomped on the flag appears to know, or acknowledge, that guidelines on the care and respect of our national flag are contained in Title 4 of the U.S. Code (Standards of Respect); it specifically addresses stepping on the flag.
Whether Scott Compton is fired or not is not my decision. My point is that it is not true to say that there is no standard for disrespecting the flag. You can query “United States Flag Code” for the full standards.
Maybe Mr. Compton should be required to read the U.S. Code, accept the fact that he disrespected the flag, apologize for his mistake and move on. And yes, I am a veteran.
