RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — A 55-year-old Irmo man was killed when his tanker truck ran off Interstate 20 Tuesday evening.
The propane truck was westbound on I-20 around the 83 mile marker when it struck the guardrail around 6:20 p.m., SC Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly said.
The truck ran off the right side of the highway, struck some trees and overturned, Kelly said.
The driver, identified by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts as Heyward Quattlebaum, Kennerly Road, was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene.
The truck's propane tank was empty, Kelly said.
