Columbia resident Hammond Mcqueen Love, 46, who was arrested last month on a charge of committing a lewd act on a minor in Clemson, now is charged with a second, more serious charge related to a 2004 incident reported on Hilton Head Island.

Love turned himself in Wednesday to Beaufort County Sheriff’s deputies on a warrant on a charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor. The charge stems from an alleged June 27, 2004, incident at Sea Pines Villa on Hilton Head Island in which he is accused of assaulting a then-12-year-old girl. He also is accused of forcing the girl to touch his privates.

Love was booked in to the Beaufort County Detention Center, SC State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry said.

SLED agents arrested Love on Jan. 25 and booked him at the Clemson University Police Department in connection with a separate, Nov. 4, 2005, incident at the university's Madren Center. In that case, he is accused of groping a 13-year-old girl. The Beaufort County charge resulted from a SLED investigation requested by the Clemson University Police Department.
