Ridge View linemen Curtis Bey and Obinna Ntiasagwe will remain teammates in college. The Blazers all-stars both signed National Letters of Intent with Presbyterian College in a ceremony Wednesday at the high school.
Bey and Ntiasagwe have been starters for Ridge View for three seasons, and coach Raymond Jennings is tickled to death that they will be staying together.
Weve got Brian Butler up there, who played here last year, Jennings said. Its important for those two to have a great start, to be able to go up there and be young but already have somebody that they know looking out for them.
They were among eight players accepting college scholarships at Ridge View on Wednesday, including wide receiver TreVon Howell, who also signed with Presbyterian, and defensive tackle Ren McNeil, who is headed to North Greenville.
Bey, the fourth Ridge View player to earn the honor of playing in the Shrine Bowl, was credited with leading the Blazers defense and named the teams Most Valuable lineman. Bey recorded 71 tackles, 6.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries in his senior season and was named to the all-state team.
When I got there, it just felt like home, Bey said of Presbyterian. I love the school, the campus, the coaching staff. And to have my teammates going with me makes it that much more special.
Ntiasagwe, an honor student, represented the Blazers in the North-South All-Star game after notching 85 tackles, nine sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. Ntiasagwe chose Presbyterian from nearly a dozen offers.
This is not a four-year decision, its a 40-year decision, he said of his choice. Curtis and I have been on the same team since eighth grade. Weve been through a lot and I love that were going to get to keep a relationship.
Jennings praised Presbyterians recruiting efforts and was happy to have several of his players moving on to the college.
Presbyterian can only recruit a certain type of player because of academic standards, and I am very proud that a few of my guys were that type of guy, Jennings said. They have got three of the best players Ive ever had.
