One killed in two-car collision on US 76 near Prosperity

A 57-year-old man was killed when his car was hit as he pulled out of a private driveway onto US 76 near Prosperity Wednesday night, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said. .

The collision occured shortly after 7 p.m. Russell Hawkins Pitts, 46, of Prosperity was driving west on US 76 when his car struck the victim’s car, as the unidentified man pulled out into the roadway, trooper Billy Elder said.

Pitts, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to a local hospital. The victim, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, Elder said.

The accident is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
