Hammonds boys basketball team made it official in SCISA Region 1-3A on Friday in Georgia, defeating Augusta Christian 64-47 on Friday to secure the outright conference championship the first for the program in five years.
The Skyhawks headlining trio of Seventh Woods, Xavier McDaniel and Spencer Carlson were too much for the host Lions. Woods rang up 20 points, while McDaniel and Carlson tallied 16 points apiece in support of the freshman sensation.
Hammond (20-4, 7-1) is the regions No. 1 seed and will be off for more than one week before its next outing a quarterfinal game in the SCISA state tournament in Sumter.
The Skyhawks girls (16-6, 5-3) suffered a 40-30 loss to Augusta Christian, but the outcome did not change Hammonds status as the regions No. 2 playoff seed behind Heathwood Hall.
