— A 39-year-old man accused of shooting a man who beat him and stole his groceries Feb. 1 has been arrested, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Ronald Watkins is charged with attempted murder and is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He’s accused of shooting a man multiple times in at a home in 1300 block of Piney Grove Road Wednesday because the man stole his groceries earlier in the week. The man was treated at Palmetto Health Richland and is in stable condition, deputies said.

The shooting happened after Watkins saw the man reaching inside his car while at Capital Foods on Broad River Road. The two got in a fight and Watkins fled the area.

When the 39-year-old got home a few minutes later, the man and another person were waiting. They beat Watkins and took his groceries, deputies said.

The man who Watkins shot is being investigated for robberies, and could be charged with a crime as well.
