Lower Richland hosts a first-round Class 3A state basketball playoff doubleheader on Tuesday.

The undefeated, second ranked LR girls (21-0) take on Southside in the opener at the Diamond Mine at 6 p.m., while the LR boys (14-10) face Greer at 7:30 p.m.

The Diamond Hornets girls are heavy favorites against the Tigers from Greenville (10-13). Breshay Johnson (12.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg), Jasmine Richardson (8.6 ppg, 2.8 apg, 4.3 spg), Christian Brown (8.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 2.7 spg) and Dayonshe’ Mitchell (7.3 ppg, 2.4 spg) are the nominal leaders on Debbie Stroman’s deep, aggressive team.

The LR boys finished the regular season on a down note, losing its final two games to end up sharing the Region 4 championship with A.C. Flora, though Willie Thomas’ club did rate the No. 1 playoff seed. Center Vincent Hicklin is a key player for the Diamond Hornets.

Greer (16-8) tied for third place in Region 2, but is the No. 4 seed. The Yellow Jackets player to watch is senior guard Lebrian Shiflet, who is averaging 21.5 points a game.
