Published: February 12, 2013

Dutch Fork’s quest for a second consecutive Class 4A state girls basketball championship begins with a first-round home game on Tuesday against cross-town rival Irmo.

The top-ranked, defending state champion Silver Foxes (24-0) roll into the postseason riding a 35-game winning streak, including four triumphs against the archrival Yellow Jackets. The DF streak is the fourth longest in the nation, according to MaxPreps.

Alaina Coates, the 6-foot-5 center All-America candidate, is averaging 20.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.7 blocks and 2.6 steals per game. Coates is backed by junior Sydney Shull (11.0 ppg, 3.8 apg, 2.9 spg) and sophomores Morgan Williams (7.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg) and Zhane Green (6.8 ppg).

Irmo, which finished in fourth place in Region 4, is paced by sophomore Ke’Asia Jackson (15.0 ppg, 2.7 spg) and senior Briana Baylor (10.7 ppg, 2.9 spg).
