The commanding general of the Third U.S. Army at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter will be promoted and reassigned.
Lt. Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, a three-star general, has been nominated by the President for appointment to the rank of four-star general and will be reassigned as commanding general of the U.S. Army Pacific at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta said Monday.
Brooks took charge of Third Army in June 2011. Third Army is the Armys planning and logistics arm for the Middle East and Southwest Asia, including Iraq and Afghanistan.
A successor to command U.S. Army Central/Third U.S. Army has not yet been nominated by the President.
