3A GIRLS PLAYOFFS: LOWER RICHLAND 44 SOUTHSIDE 22

Diamond Hornets stay perfect in playoff debut

Published: February 13, 2013

Lower Richland toppled Southside 44-22 at home in the first round of the girls Class 3A playoffs on Tuesday.

The Diamond Hornets (22-0), Region 4 champions, remained undefeated with leadership from guard Jasmine Richardson and a game-high 12 points from Breshay Johnson.

With fast and physical play from Johnson in the post, the Diamond Hornets built a 29-17 halftime lead.

The Tigers had little hope of catching up in the third quarter as they struggled to withstand the Diamond Hornets’ perimeter pressure. Southside found it no easier scoring in the post.

Richardson posted eight points, Dayonshe Mitchell added nine and the Diamond Hornets received 15 points from their bench.

Lower Richland will host Walhalla on Thursday.
