FOREST ACRES — Members of Forest Acres City Council have approved raises for themselves starting July 1.
Tuesday evening’s vote was 4-1, with Councilman Shell Suber opposed.
The increases translate into a 37.5 percent increase for the four council members, to $6,600 a year; and a 30 percent increase for the mayor, to $7,800 a year.
Salaries went up last in the year 2000, the city administrator has said.
A survey by the S.C. Municipal Association shows council members in 10 similar-sized cities are paid $3,600 to $10,159. Mayors in those cities get $4,800 to $19,895 a year.
