Columbia, SC — Has anyone with common sense who wants an assault-rifle ban really read about what they want to ban? The last ban included the Remington 1100 shotgun and Remington Speedmaster .22.

People talk about handles on the rifle, so does that make my single shot an assault rifle? Is my .22 that holds 15 rounds an assault rifle? Are my two deer rifles assault weapons because they use clips or because they are more powerful than the 223/5.56 used in many so-called assault rifles today?

Using the criteria of the last ban, my 82-year-old grandmother was using an assault rifle to try to shoot a deer one morning.

The way the word assault is being thrown around, a jeep or similar vehicle can be called an assault car. Guard dogs can be called assault dogs. Instead of using the term butcher knife, we can say assault knife. The list can go on and on.

President Obama has proven time and time again that he cannot be trusted to tell the truth. His ultimate goal is to disarm us so that we have to serve the government with no hope of the government ever serving us. We need to slow down and smell the stink coming from the White House.
