ARLIN NEAL — The State

— A windy mix of wintry weather hit the Midlands late Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologist Mike Proud said “a whole mixed bag of precipitation” fell, “anything from rain to sleet, to grapple and some wet snow.” Grapple is a balled up form of snow, he said.

In Lexington, there were reports of “thunder snow,” Proud said, which is when snow mixes with lightning.

The system blew through around 6 p.m. The ground temperatures were too warm for accumulation, he said. The Upstate got 1 to 2 inches.
