Blazers upset No. 7 Summerville

Unranked Ridge View stunned No. 7 Summerville 54-52 in the Class 4A state playoffs on Saturday in the Lowcountry.

It was the second straight road win in the playoffs for the Blazers, who improved to 15-10. Ridge View hits the road again on Tuesday for a third-round game against No. 5 Goose Creek.

Jordan Portee’s two free throws with 32 seconds remaining in the game proved to be the decisive points, but the Blazers had to sweat out repeated Green Wave scoring attempts the rest of the way. Summerville had three shots in the closing seconds, missing them all including a 3-pointer at the buzzer by John Jenkins who scored 32 points.

Portee led a balanced scoring effort with 14 points. Tre’von Howell backed Portee with 10 points while Jose Roman and Jarrell Brantley chipped in eight points apiece.
