SCHOOLS

ROUND TOP ELEMENTARY SCHOOL has been selected as a 2013 S.C. School of Character by the Palmetto Character Council.

LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL’S WILDCSTS WALK FOR A CURE TEAM has raised nearly $7,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

THE PELION MIDDLE SCHOOL LEARNING COMMONS TEAM has been awarded a Learning Commons Grant from the Lexington 1 Educational Foundation.

RED BANK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL has received a donation of $1,000 from Doctors Care Red Bank, part of UCI Medical Affiliates, for the school’s Special Olympics program.

SPRINGDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’S MATH BOWL TEAM has been named District Math Champions. Students include Marshall, Evans, Courtney Farr, Devin Koellner , Ryan Sighlter, Jordan Mendenhall , Sydney Coleman, Chase Wilson and Butler Cochran, Springdale Elementary; Kaleb Barr, Jasmine Beaver, Trey Dunlap, Gavin Lombardi, Ryan Pendleton, Caleb Robert, Landon Anderson and Julian Ogletree, Congaree Elementary; and Sanders Castles, Tristin Pierce, Kamryn Brown, Za’Quan Riley, Aubrey Georgiana-Richardson, Hannah Rea, Kevin Torres and Claire Adkins, Pineview Elementary.

THE CURRENT VERSION OF THE GED TEST will expire at the end of 2013. Those who have taken the GED test, but not passed all five parts, have until the end of 2013 to pass or they will start over in 2014. Contact the WR Rogers Adult Education Center for more information, (803) 736-8787

COMMUNITY

THE LEXINGTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT has promoted Anthony Adam Creech and Brian E. Hinz to the rank of master deputy. Shannon P. Radford has been promoted to served as a fugitive investigator in the Warrant Division, and David D. Wood has been promoted to serve as a victim assistance officer in the Major Crimes Unit.

YOUTH

THE LAKE MURRAY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA recently hosted the Young Artists Competition. Winners include Mary Freeman, White Knoll High School; Mimi Harding, Spring Valley High School; Karen Lee, Spring Valley High School; Zachary Patton, Spring Valley High School; and Maximilian Witherell, Richland Northeast High School

MARINE CORPS PVT. JAMES C. CLAMP has graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. He is the son of Kandis and Sam Clamp of Gilbert.

MARINE CORPS PFC. CHASE J. DUSENBURY has graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. He is the son of Debra Elaine M. and Charles E. Dusenbury of Lexington.

MARINE CORPS PVT. JACOB R. JENKINS has graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. He is the son of Ginger N. and Rodney L. Jenkins of Camden.

MARINE CORPS PFC. RONALD D. LEWIS II has graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island. He is the son of Army Sgt. 1st Class Tiffany R. Lewis of Columbia.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN FABIAN S. GILMORE has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Anthony and Tammy McClaine of Blythewood.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN BYRON L. SABB has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Venus and Leroy Sabb of Columbia.
