LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC — Two local men were arrested by Lexington County authorities after allegedly trying to sell an industrial-grade steam cleaner reported stolen from a West Columbia warehouse as scrap metal.
Isaac Allen Beverly, 41, of Columbia and Larry Allen Hourihan, 45, of Gaston were charged with burglary and petit larceny, Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said in a news release. Beverly also was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended drivers license.
Shortly after noon on Monday, authorities responded to a burglary call at a warehouse on Bray Park Road in West Columbia. Witnesses said burglars drove off with a steam cleaner, worth about $1000, in a green pickup truck with a homemade utility trailer on the back. Investigators found a green pickup truck with trailer parked at CMC Recycling in Cayce. The two suspects were in the truck, and a small motor that allegedly had been removed from the stolen steam cleaner was in the trailer.
Both men were being held Tuesday evening at the Lexington County Detention Center, awaiting bond hearings.
