In the spring of 2011, Gil's daughter, Mary McAllilster Reames plowed through an intersection in downtown Columbia while drunk and with drugs pumping through her system. The collision killed Billy Dean Randall, a well-known Baptist preacher and a pilot. Instead of harboring ill will toward Reames, the Randall family and their church brethren have embraced the Reames family. They asked a judge to sentence her to the minimum of one year in prison and they asked to have a say in her community service. Gil Reames regularly attends church with members of the Randall family.
