Sunday: Keep politics out of prep sports

Published: February 24, 2013

— Bills in the Legislature to undermine the independence of the S.C. High School League are unwarranted political power grabs.

The league’s executive committee is composed of professional educators whose primary concern is teenage student-athletes. To replace this body with professional politicians and their minions would create an environment that is focused upon adults’ desires to live vicariously through teenagers and high school athletic programs.

I urge all representatives, senators and their constituents to resist this politicization of high school athletics.
