Columbia, SC — My daughter, Merie Cobb Mirosavich, worked her way through college — with no student loans — at Cool Beans Coffee Shop located across from the Horseshoe on the University of South Carolina campus.

Upon graduating with honors from the Darla Moore School of Business and working with City Year for a year, she purchased the business, remodeled the cafe in the same building where it had closed and renamed it College Grounds Cafe. She did this with no government assistance or loans. She employs approximately 20 people, most of them USC students or graduates.

Hard work pays off.
