CONWAY Coastal Carolina University’s out-of-state students will be paying more for tuition, as the university’s board of trustees voted Friday to raise out-of-state tuition by 3 percent, along with other fees.

Tuition will remain the same for in-state students for the second year.

The board also gave Coastal’s administration approval to take any measures necessary to improve the university’s operational efficiencies. The board wants to reduce athletic and administrative costs by $250,000 each and academic costs by $500,000.

MUSC researcher gets large grant

CHARLESTON Dr. Katherine Sterba has been awarded a five-year extramural research grant totaling $729,000 from the American Cancer Society.

Sterba, an assistant professor at the Medical University of South Carolina, is a behavioral scientist affiliated with the Hollings Cancer Center’s cancer prevention and control program. Her research focuses on the development and testing of interventions to improve outcomes for individuals with head and neck cancer and their family caregivers.
