The State sports section wins Triple Crown

Published: February 24, 2013

The State was one of 11 newspapers winning “Triple Crown” honors in the annual Associated Press Sports Editors’ contest.

The State earned recognition for its daily, Sunday and special sections in its circulation category. The awards are voted on by sports editors from across the nation.

The State joined papers such as The Boston Globe and Dallas Morning News in winning Triple Crowns in various circulation categories. It was The State’s second Triple Crown in the past five years.

“We’ve got a great staff, led by assistant sports editors Kevin McLendon and Meredith Sheffer,” Executive Sports Editor Rick Millians said. “It feels great to be honored by our peers.”
