Man tries to pick up teen at Lex. Co. bus stop

— Lexington County authorities are looking for a man who approached a teenager Wednesday after she got off her school bus about 12:20 p.m. on Edmund Highway, Sheriff James Metts said in a news release.

The 14-year-old girl told school officials Thursday that the man, described as an older, heavy-set white man with a shoulder-length mullet cut and long gray beard, rolled down the window of his car and asked if she needed a ride. She told deputies she declined, then ran toward her home when he got out of his car, according to the release. She told deputies she thought he might grab her and force her into his car.

The girl made it to her home safely, Metts said.

The unidentified man was driving an older model, four-door red car. The front passenger-side headlight was broken and a thin piece of black tape was placed across the middle of the vehicle’s rear window. The school bus driver remembered seeing a red car at the bus stop but could not give authorities any other information, according to an incident report.

The man was wearing eye glasses and a white shirt with a collar. He spoke with a deep voice, the girl told investigators.

Metts asked anyone with information to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at (888) CRIME-SC.
