KERSHAW COUNTY, SC — A pedestrian was struck and killed by an unknown vehicle in Kershaw County early Friday morning.

The SC Highway Patrol reported the pedestrian, identified by Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers as Derk Lawrence Maricle, 50, of Lugoff, was walking north on Blaney Road around 2 a.m. when he was struck by the vehicle.

An autopsy to determine the exact cause of Maricle’s death was planned for Friday, Fellers said.

Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said an accident reconstruction team will investigate the wreck, but little other information was available.
