Snow, rain and more snow possible Saturday in Upstate

jholleman@thestate.comMarch 1, 2013

— Fans heading to the USC-Clemson baseball game Saturday in Greenville will have to bundle up and prepare for cold rain possibly mixed with snow.

The National Weather Service forecasts a 50 percent chance of rain mixed with snow in the morning in the Upstate, turning to rain alone in the afternoon, and then snow showers again near sunset. The baseball game at Fluor Field is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.

It’s not a particularly wet system. Any rain should be light. If snow falls, accumulations are expected to be less than half an inch. But with freezing temperatures following the front, driving on bridges and overpasses could be tricky Saturday night.

As for the Midlands, the chance of rain Saturday is lower (30 percent), with the possibility of snow flurries so slim it doesn’t make the official forecast for Richland and Lexington counties.
