COLUMBIA, SC — An early morning fire at the Hampton Park Apartments on Blossom Street in Columbia has displaced 16 residents.
Heavy fire and smoke was visible when firefighters approached Building F at about 4:30 a.m., according to Brick Lewis, public information officer for the Columbia-Richland Fire Department. The complex is within walking distance of Midlands Technical College’s Beltline Boulevard campus.
No injuries were reported.
Damages are estimated at $100,000, and the department is investigating the fire’s cause, Lewis said. The Red Cross is providing assistance to those who had to leave their apartments.
