Shakale Worthy scored 17 points to lead four Lewisville players in double figures in the 64-54 victory over Whale Branch in the Class A boys state championship Saturday.

Mardarius Bailey added 14 points and Cody Montgomery and Qua Wells chipped in with 12 each as the Lions claimed their first boys basketball state title since 1976.

Whale Branch (24-4) led by five at the half, 28-23, but Lewisville’s huge third quarter turned the tide. The Lions opened the second half on a 15-3 run and stretched that to 26-9 before the start of the fourth quarter.

Lewisville (16-11) forced 24 turnovers total and held a 26-9 advantage on points off turnovers.

Whale Branch was making its first title game appearance in its three-year history. DeVonta Delaney and Justin Rhode led the Warriors with 12 points apiece. Leon Hazel added 11 points.
