COLUMBIA, SC — A group of South Carolina mothers is calling on state lawmakers to address gun violence.
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America gathered Saturday morning at the State House.
Speakers included a Columbia mother whose daughter was killed by someone using a stolen gun. Also present were representatives from Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamins office and the League of Women Voters.
State lawmakers are considering several gun-related bills, including a measure that would require the state to give federal authorities information about people who have been adjudicated to have a mental health problem, in the hopes of keeping those people from being able to legally buy guns.
Legislators are also considering a bill intended to let people with concealed weapon permits carry their gun into restaurants.
