Class a girls: Hemingway 61 McCormick 38

Iresha Cooper and De’Ja Woodberry each scored 15 points to lead Hemingway to a 61-38 victory against McCormick in the Class A girls championship game.

It was the Tigers’ (20-2) first girls basketball state championship in 20 years.

Hemingway took control in the first half, holding a 27-15 lead at the break behind seven points from Diamond McFadden, who finished with 11 points.

Terita Brown, McCormick’s only senior, finished with 23 points. Narquevia Jennings added 10 points and 15 rebounds. It was the Chiefs’ (17-5) first title-game appearance since 1959.
