— An early morning fire at a Columbia apartment complex near Greystone Boulevard has left multiple homes damaged and two hospitalized, officials say.

Firefighters from the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, responding to a call of smoke in one of the residences at the Stone Ridge Apartments at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, found multiple units on fire, department spokesman Brick Lewis said.

Firefighters from Columbia-Richland and the Irmo Fire District worked the fire, which was under control within three hours.

Twelve apartments were damaged in the fire, Lewis said. Richland County EMS took two people to the hospital for smoke- related issues.

Officers from the Columbia Police Department also responded, Lewis said.

The Red Cross is assisting those who have been displaced.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. An investigation is continuing.
