— The Lexington County coroner remains in the hospital 11 days after he wrecked his car.

Harry Harman crashed his car Feb. 23 while in route to a visitation at the Southland Memorial Gardens in West Columbia near the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, according to a release from the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.

The 77-year-old drove his Mercury off of a foggy Commerce Drive in West Columbia and struck a tractor trailer parked on the side of the road, according to the state highway patrol.

Harman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to Palmetto Health Richland hospital, where he has remained since.

Harman has been serving as Lexington County’s coroner since the mid-1970s.
