RICHLAND COUNTY, SC — Richland County Councilwoman Joyce Dickerson is being installed at 11 Thursday morning as chairwoman of the National Foundation for Women Legislators.
The ceremony will be in the rotunda of the State House.
The National Foundation for Women Legislators is a national organization dedicated to providing strategic resources for leadership development and effective governance to women elected officials at all levels of government.
Dickerson, 67 and a Democrat, has served on County Council since 2005, representing a district that runs from St. Andrews to Blythewood in northern Richland County.
She becomes the first locally elected official to serve as chair, a job that in the past has been bestowed only on women in the U.S. Congress.
