A plan that threatened to send more sewage into the Edisto River was scrapped Thursday.
Saluda County officials withdrew the plan opposed by environmental and paddler groups, fulfilling a promise made last month.
Local officials had asked the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control for approval of the proposal, but withdrew it before a decision was made.
Withdrawal came after Saluda County and Batesburg-Leesville leaders cancelled a partnership to expand sewer service on the western edge of Lake Murray.
